Free anti virus protection usually only exists for UNIX or Linux based operating systems, but now you can download free protection for Windows and Linux at free.avg.com

They give away free virus protection software for Windows home users, and if you like it, you can buy the business edition for your company, or pay and upgrade to a fancier home version which will allow you to have an extra layer of security.

This allows AVG to provide free virus protection to the general public, while still being able to make a profit and provide daily updates to the anti virus software, so everyone is always protected against new threats.

I have personally used their free virus protection software for as long as I can remember, and have found it to be the easiest to use, but also the most effective and best at doing its job.

For example, my sister once bought Norton Anti Virus, and it only detected around 150 virus threats on her PC. I removed them with Norton, then installed and ran Grisoft's AVG anti-virus. It then detected 500 more threats!

Needless to say, after those were removed there were no more virus threats found, and AVG has stopped anymore from finding its way onto the machine.

In fact, when one does infect the machine, an easy to understand warning pop's up notifying you and allowing you to either "Heal" the file, or move it to "Quarantine".

The free version also does a daily morning scan, about 4 A.M. or so, when nobody is using the computer. This is very important, and an invaluable feature, since everyday your PC will be getting a checkup before you use it.

So you heard it hear from a true computer expert that this free little program does a better job then those paid ones ever could, and is much simpler to use then the rest of them also.

What more could the average computer user want?
