I always wondered if it was necessary to unplug your computer when it lightnings and thunders out a little, even if I have a surge protector?

Answer

Yes, you should consider unplugging the surge protector from the outlet when it is lightning out, since it still can cause damage to anything connected to it when lighting strikes the power line. I have had it happen to me before, and I had to buy a new power supply for my computer to make it work again. If you buy a really nice surge protector though, it never should happen, but those cost several hundred dollars.
